The end of 2016 was rough for Chip and Joanna Gaines. The couple from HGTV’s hit television show “Fixer Upper” was thrown into the center of a controversy that had many up in arms.
But it’s Chip’s response to these inflammatory claims that are healing the division and frustration directed towards his family….
In a story released at the the end of November 2016, Chip and Joanna were criticized for attending a church whose pastor was not shy about his feelings about the LGBTQ community, and more specifically, his opposition of gay marriage.
Instead of fueling the flames caused by the story, Chip took to their blog to share his beliefs and how he thinks the world needs more healing, not division, during this turbulent time in history:
“This past year has been tough. In my lifetime, I can’t recall humanity being more divided. Plenty of folks are sad and scared and angry and there are sound bites being fed to us that seem fueled by judgement, fear and even hatred. Jo and I refuse to be baited into using our influence in a way that will further harm an already hurting world, this is our home. A house divided cannot stand.”
By not being “baited” into the negativity, he’s setting an extraordinary positive example for his children and others around the country who may not see eye-to-eye on everything!
The loving father, husband and television star made it clear that great minds don’t always have to think alike, but they have to treat each other like human beings – no matter the differences in their background.
